Innovative visual prosthetic producer Second Sight Medical Products Inc. of California recently appointed John Blake as its chief financial officer, with Blake bringing his track record of results to the development and manufacturing business.

“We are delighted to welcome John to the Second Sight team," President and CEO Will McGuire said. “John’s financial acumen, track record of results and broad life sciences industry experience will support our efforts to grow Second Sight … John’s strengths and capabilities are well-known to me since we worked together at Volcano. It will be a genuine pleasure to work with him again.”

Previously, Blake worked as senior vice president at aTyr Pharma, a biotechnology outfit, and Volcano Corp., a medical device company where Blake succeeded in implementing significant growth. He also served as an auditor and analyst for BD Biosciences. 

A certified public accountant, Blake holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from National University. Additionally, he fulfilled leadership programs at business schools at Harvard and Stanford.

Blake expressed pleasure at his appointment, noting that he is joining the firm at a key time.
