CPS HR Consulting, providing HR solutions to government and nonprofits nationwide, recently divulged study findings obtained from its "Driving Employee Engagement: Results from a 2016 National Survey” to identify trends at a national level.
According to poll results, 38 percent of public sector workers are fully engaged (compared to 44 percent for private-sector staff). Additionally, engaged workers in both sectors indicated triple the likelihood of believing that their companies are successful. The survey also identified a positive correlation between engagement and employee perception of organizational performance.
“This survey shows why there is a need for public sector organizations to focus on measuring and improving employee engagement,” Bob Lavigna, who serves as director of the firm’s Institute for Public Sector Employee Engagement, said. “Engaged employees believe that their organizations value them and, in return, they are more likely to go above the minimum and deliver performance.”
CPS HR suggests in its study that government agencies survey employees to increase perspective on their workforces. In addition, researchers made five tangible recommendations regarding leadership’s grasp of engagement, acknowledgment of needs for improvement and the link between well-being and engagement, attention to incentive, and focus on mission’s connection to engagement.
Because the firm’s poll pinpointed a representative sampling across the U.S. rather than relying on its own client database, CPS HR Consulting considers the conclusions salient.
