Barry Melnkovic has been appointed vice president and chief human resources officer of the United States Steel Corp.
Melnkovic was previously executive vice president and chief human capital officer for the National Railroad Passenger Corp./Amtrak. At Amtrak, he developed and implemented human and labor relation strategies, enterprise-wide lean Six Sigma strategies, and short- and long-term incentive programs. He was recognized as the 2016 HR Executive of the Year by Human Resource Executive magazine for his role in transforming the Amtrak’s HR function.
Melnkovic has also held HR positions at companies including Owens Corning, Holland America Line, Motor Coach Industries and Lilly Industries.
“Barry's proven record of success in human resources and labor relations for several prominent manufacturers and other heavy industries, coupled with his extensive transformation experience, made him the ideal person to fill this important role,” U.S. Steel President and CEO David Burritt said. “He is a seasoned leader with a proven record of implementing and executing operational excellence with a focus on continuous improvement.”
Melnkovic will be based at U.S. Steel's headquarters in Pittsburgh.
