The Department of Veterans Affairs seeks a qualified HR professional for the position of assistant human resources officer (AHRO) with oversight of the HR program in San Diego, California.
The AHRO reports directly to the HR officer in this full-time position, assisting with recruitment, employee development, benefits, performance management and recognition; strategic planning, policy implementation and problem solving.
Applicants will be considered only from among current full-time agency employees. Candidates must be U.S. citizens who meet eligibility requirements with at least one year of experience equivalent to the GS-12 federal grade level.
Specialized experience can range from advising supervisors on civilian Federal HR management to research on HR laws and policies. Prior background with sensitive labor relations issues or staffing is also desirable, including direct management of operational functions among all ranks of personnel.
Volunteer experience such as a National Service program like Peace Corps or AmeriCorps; and community, philanthropic, professional, civic or spiritual involvement, will also be eligible to receive credit.
Federal employees with a GS grade within the past year also need to meet time-in-grade requirements. For consideration at the level of GS-13, candidates must have previously served 52 consecutive weeks as a GS-12.
This position pays $94,707.00 to $123,117.00 annually. Hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. or 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Relocation is permissible; no travel is required. The application period closes May 19.
