Conveying pride in his multiple roles at the recent Governor’s Celebration of Performance Excellence ceremony in Altoona, Iowa, Scott Burgmeyer of software as a service-based benefit solutions provider Businessolver compared the experience to hosting the Emmy Awards.
Businessolver of West Des Moines, Iowa, garnered Tier 3 Leadership Level recognition this year. Burgmeyer — who also serves as a Baldrige official — emceed the occasion, where Gov. Terry Branstad presented the award to company officials.
Iowa companies are recognized for their professional excellence and best practices at this annual event sponsored by Iowa Recognition for Performance Excellence (IRPE).
The Baldrige Framework for Excellence for acknowledging Iowa-based businesses is organized around seven key areas, Burgmeyer said: leadership, strategic planning, customer focus, workforce focus, operations focus, measurement/analysis and knowledge management.
“As Businessolver’s SVP of Quality and Improvement, being invited to emcee an event honoring the Baldrige Framework is like hosting the Emmys to me,” Burgmeyer said in a company announcement. “Pursuing the Baldrige criteria is no easy task, and it was a genuine thrill to see professionals from all over Iowa joined together to celebrate the hard work that goes into improving business quality.”
Tom Pohl, who serves as Businessolver’s vice president of information technology systems, provided a keynote presentation on cybersecurity at the ceremony. Burgmeyer noted that this area is becoming increasingly important both to Baldrige and Businessolver.
“For Businessolver, it was an especially exciting day,” Burgmeyer said.
