With the announcement that Facebook has joined rivals Indeed and LinkedIn in the crowded field of online job posting services, CareerBuilder has designated March as “Find Your Calling Month” in a bid to stay relevant to young job seekers.
With the launch of its free FindYourCalling.com website, CareerBuilder places a smorgasbord of data, such as pay ranges, training requirements and demand predictions, before high school students and young adults. The goal is to actively engage the next generation of workers in the process of career choice.
The plan is a sound one, according to research the venerable website released in a March 2 announcement. About 25 percent of teens report choosing careers based on impressions they receive from the media, whereas a third of working adults confess to “buyer’s remorse” about their chosen fields.
“There is a world of opportunity open to younger workers in business, technical and creative fields," CareerBuilder’s chief human resources officer Rosemary Haefner said in the press release. “The more informed you are about your options and what it takes to get to where you want to be, the better the outcome,” she said.
