Fifth Third Bancorp has appointed Robert Shaffer, its new chief human resources officer.
Shaffer joined the company in 2002 and has been an executive vice president since February 2010. He was also previously the bank's chief auditor.
"Bob Shaffer will be a terrific head of human resources,” President and Chief Executive Officer Greg Carmichael, said in a company announcement. “In addition to his broad base of knowledge regarding every unit and function within the Bank, Bob has demonstrated exemplary leadership with respect to talent selection and development as well as employee engagement. This demonstrates the depth of talent and bench strength within Fifth Third.”
Shaffer joined the company as group audit manager before quickly earning a promotion to director of financial audit and, later, to chief auditor. His time at Fifth Third has also been marked b civic involvement, having previously chaired the company’s United Way corporate campaign and currently serving on the United Way of Greater Cincinnati’s Impact Cabinet. In 2012, he earned the United Way of Greater Cincinnati’s Community Service Award for Developing Resources.
