March 1 is the deadline for companies to make disclosures for Medicare Part D and to report HIPPA breaches.
The Medicare Part D disclosure relates to entities with calendar-year plans providing drug coverage to individuals eligible for Medicare Part D. Those entities must complete an online disclosure form for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) by March 1 stating whether prescription drug coverage under the plan is creditable coverage. Companies obligated to make Medicare Part D disclosures to CMS are also required to provide written notifications to all individuals on their plans who are eligible for Medicare, but the deadline for that disclosure is Oct. 15.
Companies that experienced HIPPA breaches or a breach of unsecured protected health information (PHI) in 2016 that affected less than 500 individuals must report it to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the affected individuals no later than March 1. Reporting requirements for breaches affecting 500 individuals or more entail reporting within 60 days of its discovery.
