Viewing Human Resources from an innovative perspective, Tracy Morley of XpertHR keyed in on the critical role played by “superpowers” for HR professionals in a report issued recently from the company’s New Jersey hub.

Morley prioritized the need for practitioners to effectively demonstrate the inherent value of HR initiatives, listing 10 specific steps to make a good case for suggestions — beginning with identification of a problem, need or gap; coordinating a team; developing a tentative approach for return on investment (ROI); and quantifying the expected benefit.

From there, her recommendations proceed through developing several tactics for attaining the benefit with accompanying numerical (investment) data, deciding on the optimal solution and proceeding with calculations before presenting the final HR initiative to senior decision makers.

Morley’s report, entitled Become an HR SuperheRO(I) with Successful Business Case Planning, includes sample scenarios to guide HR professionals through different tasks or problems. She revealed that using the report’s strategies may assist in companies’ reframing their view of HR to envision personnel more as strategic partners rather than merely as administrators.

“As I grew in my career … I [learned] to put forth proposals in terms more easily understood by business leaders,” Morley said. “Developing [peer] relationships, understanding the business, and creating solid business cases to secure funding for HR programs and initiatives helped to get them approved.”
