Nearly 32 percent of the active workforce have other streams of income to stay afloat, according to a recent study by CareerBuilder.

One out of three employed adults, a majority of them women, have side gigs along with their full-time employment.

The numbers are dependent on demographics. Individuals under the age of 35 are more likely to have other employment vs. those who are over 35. Black and Hispanic Americans are also more likely to have side jobs, which is less likely for whites and Asians.

“While we continue to be at what is considered full employment, the quality and pay of jobs isn’t always what workers want, causing them to seek out new ways to supplement their full-time income,” Rosemary Haefner, chief human resources officer at CareerBuilder, said in a press release. “We’re no longer in a world where there’s just one employee-employer relationship. It’s easier than ever to download an app that allows you to drive around passengers, pick up babysitting gigs or sell your unwanted furniture, and employees are willing to take on these extra responsibilities for the extra cash.”

The nation study, in partnership with Harris Poll, was conducted online from May 24 to June 16 with a sample size of nearly 4,000 full-time workers in America, including private sector. For a full breakdown of the stats and demographics, visit www.careerbuilder.com.
