Ripple has appointed former New York superintendent of financial services Benjamin Lawsky to its board and also named senior financial executive and investment banker Ron Will as its chief financial officer.

The two will play central roles in Ripple’s cross-border payments and increase the use of digital asset XRP by financial institutions around the world.

Lawksy’s 20 years of professional experience includes working in federal and state governments. He is known for his work on New York’s industry-leading regulation for digital asset businesses operating, BitLicense. He also served as superintendent of financial services for New York State for four years.

Lawksy also served as co-chair of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s Cyber Security Advisory board after serving as the governor’s chief of staff. He also served as an assistant U.S. attorney for New York’s Southern District and as chief counsel to Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY).

Will, Ripple’s new CFO, previously served as CFO for TubeMogul which acquired Adobe this past year. He also served as CFO and operating partner for Mainsail Partners, a growth equity firm. Will also previously served at BrightRoll as CFO before moving to Yahoo, where he was vice president of finance and treasurer.

Ripple provides a global network for financial institutions to process customer payments anywhere in the world instantly with U.S. offices in San Francisco and New York.
