The 2017 Randstad Employer Brand Research study has investigated sentiments toward automation in the workplace.
The study released July 18 stated that only 14 percent of U.S. employees are concerned about job security with the rising automation options. Thirty percent of employees feel positively about it, feeling that automation will improve their work experience and 51 percent of believe that, if needed to keep up with automation, they would be able to retrain to remain necessary and relevant in the workplace, as long as they maintain or increase their salaries.
“It is evident from our research that not only are workers not afraid of losing their jobs to automation, they are more than willing to retrain to leverage the efficiencies and benefits of artificial intelligence and robotics in the workplace,” Randstad North America CEO Lina Galipeau said, adding that employees should continue to work on their human skills which automation will be unable to replace.
Leaders of businesses believe automation will have a positive impact on the workplace, with just 6 percent believing that automation will change the needs for talent in the workplace.
“While the productivity and efficiency benefits of automation are unequivocal, the need for skilled humans to operate, utilize and advance technologies is equally unmistakable,” Galipeau said, reminding employees everywhere that technology cannot replace human intuition.
