Norfolk Southern Corp. has promoted William Galanko and John Scheib after a vote from the board of directors.

“These appointments are components of an ongoing plan to ensure that Norfolk Southern is well-represented in all facets of our business, bringing value to our shareholders, superior service to our customers, and strong relationships with all of our partners,” CEO James Squires said in a statement.

Galanko is now executive vice president of law and administration, and Scheib is now senior vice president of law and corporate relations. Galanko will oversee human resources and labor relations, while Scheib will report to Galanko and will oversee law, government relations and corporate communications.

Galanko has been with the company since 1990, starting as a tax attorney. He attended West Virginia University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree, and the College of William Mary and Georgetown University, where he earned law degrees.

Scheib began as a general attorney for Norfolk Southern in 2005. He attended the University of Virginia, where he earned a bachelor’s degree, and Villanova University, where he earned a law degree.

“Today’s announcement underscores the depth and breadth of skill in Norfolk Southern’s team,” Squires said. “Shareholders, customers and communities will continue to benefit from Bill’s and John’s efforts, and I look forward to working with them in their new roles.”
