Randstad US recently released a study, “Workplace 2025,” based on the results of a survey that indicates the majority of 2025’s workforce will be contractors, consultants, temporary employees or freelancers, otherwise known as “agile workers.”
“Our first-of-its-kind study serves as a wake-up call for business and HR leaders to quickly embrace and prepare for the disruptive changes impacting how, when, where and by whom work is conducted,” Randstad North America Chief Human Resources Officer Jim Link said.
The survey garnered responses from 3,100 workers and 1,500 HR and C-suite executives. They believed — with 70 percent affirmative responses from the workers and 68 percent from the executives — that more than 50 percent of workers will be in agile employment by 2025. Nearly 40 percent of workers said they would likely consider agile work in the next two or three years.
“More workers have changed their perceptions of non-permanent employment, choosing to pursue agile work because it offers them greater control, growth and even job security,” Link saaid. “This mindset shift, combined with the growing availability of collaborative technologies to facilitate work from anywhere, anytime and on any device, means the notion of having to work a traditional nine to five day in an office is disappearing.”
