Herzing University will launch its new licensed practical nursing (LPN) curriculum this month as it partners with Kenosha Estates Rehab and Care Center for student clinical internship training.

According to a recent article in the Kenosha News, Herzing’s LPN program will kick-off its first class on May 7 with three class sections of 24 students each.

The LPN program, which focuses on anatomy and physiology, includes adult health, general health, fitness and psychology. Herzing LPN students will receive their clinical training by helping patients at Kenosha Estates.

Students interested in the LPN program must have a high school diploma or equivalency and pass an essential skills test. Potential students must also have passed one semester of high school or college-level mathematics, biology and chemistry with at least a C.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates a 12 percent growth in LPN jobs over current levels. Herzing President Jeff Hill told the Kenosha News the LPN program can serve as “a gateway to nursing” for those who may want to go on to become a registered nurse.
