Mirroring what its newest hire himself described as “massive transformation,” HackerRank of Palo Alto, California recently appointed industry veteran Nicolas Draca as its first chief marketing officer, scaling to meet rapidly changing industry demand.

Draca, who previously served as marketing leader at both Twilio and LinkedIn, brings two decades of experience to his new position.

“We are going through a massive transformation in technology and HR,” Draca said. “There’s a shortage of tech talent, resulting in the need for companies to reevaluate age-old hiring methods that rely on proxies like resume, pedigree and background.

Draca attended the University of California at Berkeley’s Haas School of Business and the ICN Business School, where he earned a master’s degree in international business. He developed and patented a system for assessing marketing programs’ value relative to sales deals and has won awards in the marketing field.

HackerRank is a skills-oriented hiring platform, modernizing hiring by shifting focus away from resumes and more towards capabilities. Its strategy for its clients includes expanding candidate options; helping recruiters and engineers communicate clearly; and speeding up technical hiring.

“HackerRank is in the best position to help businesses navigate the new technological economy by creating a standard for assessing developers’ skills and powering technical hiring in an unbiased way,” Draca said.

The company helps businesses to screen applicants precisely; offers integrated live programming for real-time assessment of candidate skills; and generally “hire the right engineers faster,” according to its website.
